Bangalore, Dec 6 (IANS) Wipro’s infrastructure engineering business unit Tuesday announced a joint venture (JV) with the Japanese major Kawasaki Heavy Industry to manufacture hydraulic pumps for excavators.
‘The Wipro Kawasaki Precision Machinery Ltd joint venture will invest upfront Rs.50 crore to set up a manufacturing facility in Bangalore with an initial capacity of 4,000 pumps per annum,’ Wipro infrastructure engineering unit president Pratik Kumar said in a statement here.
As Wipro’s 11th manufacturing facility globally, the Bangalore plant will roll out pumps for excavators of 7-20 tonne range from July 2012 with increasing localisation and expand the installed capacity to 15,000 pumps per annum by 2015.
‘With the construction equipment market in India projected to grow to $20 billion by 2020-21, we intend to tap the growth potential of multiple mega-infrastructure projects planned by various public-private sectors, making excavator pumps available at a competitive price,’ Kumar noted.
As a subsidiary of the $16-billion Kawasaki Heavy Industries group, Kawasaki Precision Machinery manufactures hydraulic components and equipment used in construction machinery, aircraft, ships and industrial robots.
‘The partnerships will help us to bring leading edge technology products to the Indian market and expand product portfolio in the hydraulic segment. Localisation will also enable time to market with enhanced customer service,’ Kumar observed.
Kawasaki also manufactures a wide range of products, including motors, actuators, valves and other hydraulic components for machines and plants, besides hydraulic deck machinery, electro-hydraulic steering gear and hydraulic fishing machinery.
‘Since India is a very important growth market for us, the joint venture’s combined strengths will bring superior hydraulic products to the customers in this region,’ Kawasaki Precision Machinery president Makoto Sonoda said in the statement.
