Kolkata, Jan 9 (Inditop.com) A gang of ten robbers was sentenced to death by a district court In West Bengal for murdering a housewife during a robbery almost two years back.
Additional district judge of Barrackpore Partha Sarathi Mukherjee announced the verdict Friday.
According to police sources, the incident dates back to Feb 21, 2008 when a gang of 10 robbers broke into the house of jewellery shop owner Bimal Das.
They beat up Bimal’s 12-year-old son Bidyut and killed his wife Chandana, 42, when she tried to resist. They then threw her off the balcony.
“The incident was barbaric as the victim was helpless. Altogether, 12 people were convicted in the case and of them 10 were given death sentence,” public prosecutor Pritish Dasgupta said.
