Kolkata, Jan 9 (Inditop.com) Ten robbers have been sentenced to death by a West Bengal court for murdering a housewife during a robbery two years ago.
The additional district judge of Barrackpore, Partha Sarathi Mukherjee, announced the verdict Friday.
According to police sources, on Feb 21, 2008 the robbers broke into the house of jewellery shop owner Bimal Das. They beat up his 12-year-old son Bidyut and killed his wife Chandana, 42, and threw her off the balcony.
“The incident was barbaric as the victim was helpless. Altogether, 12 people were convicted and of them 10 were given death sentence,” public prosecutor Pritish Dasgupta said.
