Kolkata, Jan 21 (Inditop.com) At least 200 shanties were gutted in a devastating fire that swept through Tangra in Kolkata’s eastern fringes Thursday, a fire department official said.
The early morning blaze ravaged 200-odd shanties and rendered more than 600 people homeless in the slum area.
Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader and state Tourism Minister Manab Mukherjee and Kolkata Mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya visited the spot to assess the situation.
Temporary relief camps were put up by civic authorities for the homeless people of the area.
