New Delhi, Feb 22 (Inditop.com) Haryana legislator Abhay Chautala was granted interim bail by a city court Monday after he failed to appear before it in a graft case.
Special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Judge P.S. Teji granted interim bail to Chautala, an Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) legislator, and fixed the matter for further hearing March 5. Abhay is the son of INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala.
The court had Feb 15 issued a warrant against Abhay Chautala after the CBI’s counsel submitted that summons issued against the leader could not be served despite their best efforts.
Earlier, the court had issued summons against Abhay Chautala and his brother Ajay Chautala and others after taking cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the CBI in a case for allegedly having assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The CBI chargesheet filed against Abhay Chautala alleged his assets were 522 percent more than his income of Rs.22.89 crore as per income tax records during the period 2000 to 2005. The agency claimed to have found Rs.119.69 crore worth of assets.
