Hong Kong, May 29 (Inditop) A four-year-old boy was chopped to death with a meat cleaver in front of horrified lunchtime crowds as he played in the street with his father in Hong Kong Friday.
The boy and his father were playing outside a busy fish and vegetable market when a man who lives in the same apartment block as them, lunged at them with a meat cleaver, police said.
The boy suffered a fatal head wound in the attack which took place Friday lunchtime and was pronounced dead in hospital shortly afterwards. The father was also injured.
The attacker, who is understood to have a history of mental problems, was arrested at the scene of the attack which took place in the city’s densely populated Shamshuipo district.
Police said they were investigating whether the suspect had been involved in a dispute with the boy’s family that may have led to the attack.
Murders and street crime are relatively rare in wealthy Hong Kong, a city of seven million with a reputation for its low crime rate and safe streets.
