Miami, April 29 (Inditop) A US court has sentenced Eugenio Montoya, a member of Colombia’s Norte del Valle drug cartel, to 30 years in prison.

Montoya apologised Tuesday for his actions to district judge Cecilia Altonaga in Miami.

He pleaded guilty to conspiring to traffic drugs and obstruction of justice in January after reaching an agreement with US federal prosecutors.

Montoya’s lawyer Ruben Oliva said the sentence would be adjusted as per the agreement with federal prosecutors.

He said: “We’re hoping for a reduction in the sentence because of cooperation” shown by Montoya.

Seventy percent of the cocaine supplied to the US and Europe are operated by the North del Valle gang, officials said.
