Bhopal, Jan 1 (Inditop.com) Indefinite curfew was imposed in Maksi town in Madhya Pradesh’s Shajapur district Friday evening, after one man was killed and six injured when a clash over a cricket match turned violent, police said.

The quarrel started in the afternoon over a small dispute when two teams of children were playing cricket in Maksi town, about 100 km from Bhopal. It soon transformed into a free for all and more people gathered on either side and used sticks and sharp-edged weapons as well as stones to attack each other. Later, guns were also pulled out and one person was killed in the firing.

“Half a dozen people were injured during the clash and at least, one person was killed. He was rushed to Ujjain district hospital where he died while undergoing treatment. The administration first imposed Section 144 (of the Criminal Procedure Code) – prohibiting gathering of more than four people at a public place and then seeing the situation going out of control, clamped indefinite curfew on the entire town,” Shajapur District Collector R.K. Sharma told Inditop.

The six injured are undergoing treatment at Shajapur district hospital while additional police force has been rushed to Maksi, where the situation is said to be tense but under control, police said.
