Lucknow, May 29 (Inditop) A group of villagers in Uttar Pradesh shaved the heads of two Dalit teenagers and made them parade through a village, after accusing them of theft, police said Friday.
Police have arrested and booked four residents of Kunba village in Rae Bareli district under Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
According to police, Umabaksh Singh of the village suspected that the two Dalit teenagers of his neighbourhood had stolen a part of his tube well.
Singh and his friends manhandled the two teenagers and shaved their heads Thursday evening after they denied the allegation.
“Acting on the complaint made by the two teenagers, a case under section 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), section 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), section 504 (Insult intended to provoke breach of peace), section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) has also been registered against the four men,” district police chief D.C. Rae Bareli is 80 km from state capital Lucknow.
