New Delhi, July 24 (Inditop.com) A 25-year-old son of a senior scientist of Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO), who was abducted Monday for ransom, was rescued from Haryana Thursday and one of his close friends was arrested for the crime, police said.

Ajay Kumar, 41, and his associate Vijay Foghat, 26, were arrested for kidnapping Abhai Garg, a businessman, Monday afternoon and demanding Rs.30 million in ransom from his father Ajai Garg.

Police said Abhai Monday left Delhi with his close friend Ajay in his car for Gurgaon to inspect some property there. But on their way back, they stopped at an isolated stretch in Gurgaon to buy alcohol.

“Suddenly four persons came and got into the car with weapons and hijacked them under threat of life. They kept Abhai captive in a house in Kosli village of Jhajjar district in Haryana. The place is around 100 km from Delhi,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Shankar Dass.

“The accused kept the victim in a locked room. They gave him three meals in four days apart from one-odd bottle of water,” he added.

Police said the accused made a ransom call Monday and Tuesday demanding Rs.30 million for the safe release of Abhai. They also sent threat messages to the mobile phone of the victim’s father. The kidnappers also took away Abhai’s credit and debit cards and withdrew Rs.8,700.

Dass said Ajay Kumar, along with his friends Foghat, Krishan and Jitender, had hatched the conspiracy to kidnap Abhai.

“They even purchased many questionable articles like rope, stick, gloves, plaster tape, few locks and cotton and electric wires. All these were used in the abduction and captivity. They had also put black film on his Wagon-R car few days back as part of preparations for their operation.” Dass said.

“In order to misguide us and the victim’s family, Ajay Kumar returned the next day to his house in Pushp Vihar and told us he was also abducted. He said he had taken Rs.100,000 from his house to pay for his release,” Dass said.

Police said Ajay Kumar made calls from a nearby public telephone booth to Abhai’s father saying that he (Abhai) had been abducted.

Ajay Kumar, however, later joined the abductors at Kosli village and stayed with them, police said.

Dass said over 50 men were roped in for the investigation and a raid was conducted Thursday morning at the house in Kosli. Foghat tried to fire at the policemen with a countrymade pistol but was overpowered.

Police said search was on to nab their accomplices.
