New Delhi, Dec 16 (Inditop.com) In a daring daylight robbery, four motorbike-borne armed assailants looted Rs.1.55 crore (Rs.15.5 million) from a jeweller near his home in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar area Wednesday morning, police said.

Puran Chand Goel, 62, a resident of Ashok Vihar-Phase II, left his house to go to the HDFC bank’s Patel Nagar branch to deposit the cash when he was accosted by the gunmen at 9.45 a.m. He carried cash in two bags. The money was collection of sales from his two shops in Ashok Vihar and Sadar Bazar.

“Goel had left his house in a car with the bags when four motorcycle borne men stopped the car a few metres away from his house. They snatched the bags at gunpoint and escaped,” he said.

According to police, the assailants were waiting at a shop near Goel’s house for him to come out.

“We suspect the involvement of people known to Goel as the robbers knew the time he left for the shop,” the official said.

Goel’s driver and the man outside whose shop the incident occurred are being questioned.

Till Nov 15, police have registered a total of 1,199 cases of snatching, of which it claims to solve 858 cases.
