New Delhi, Dec 5 (Inditop.com) A drunk 24-year-old speeding home in his Mercedes after a late night party ran over two destitute people sleeping on the footpath near AIIMS, injuring them seriously, police said Saturday. The driver has been arrested.

“The driver who was drunk has been identified as Simran Sodhi. He is a resident of Hauz Khas and was on his way home from a high profile club — F Bar at Ashoka hotel when the incident occured at around 2 a.m.,” a senior police official told Inditop.

The official said Sodhi was well above the speed limit of 50 km per hour and his Mercedes spun out of control and went over the footpath on the Ring Road near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Trauma Centre.

“He ran over two destitute men sleeping on the footpath. They sustained serious fractures and are now being treated at the Trauma Centre,” the official informed.

Sodhi was arrested from the scene and a case has been registered against him at the Sarojini Nagar police station.
