Lucknow, Jan 16 (Inditop.com) At least five people were killed when the driver of their bus lost control and rammed into a tree in Uttar Pradesh’s Sitapur district, police said Saturday.

Twenty people were injured in the accident that took place Saturday morning in Biswan town, police inspector Veer Singh told reporters in Sitapur, some 80 km from Lucknow.

“Most of the passengers in the private bus were traders going to Kanpur for business,” he added.

The injured were being treated at a government hospital near the accident site and five of them were critical, said Singh.

Eyewitnesses told the police that the bus was moving at high speed when it rammed into the tree.

Sitapur Superintendent of police Amitabh Yash told IANS: “An enquiry has been initiated into the incident. We are yet to ascertain whether the passengers in the bus exceeded its maximum capacity.”
