Lucknow, July 7 (Inditop.com) At least five pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh were killed and 12 seriously injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a speeding truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur district Tuesday morning, police said.
The Marshall jeep carrying the pilgrims had a head-on collision with the truck near Lehangpur locality, Superintendent of Police (Rural) B.N. Tiwari told IANS on phone.
The injured are undergoing treatment in the district hospital of Mirzapur, about 300 km form here. The condition of most of them is stated to be critical.
Police said the devotees from Satna district in Madhya Pradesh were headed to an ashram in Mirzapur to offer prayers on the occasion of Guru Poornima.
