Rohtak, Oct 4 (Inditop.com) Police are conducting raids at various places in this Haryana district to arrest a man who had set on fire a 16-year-old girl after raping her Friday, police said Sunday.
According to the police, 22-year-old Sonu, a resident of Khokarakot town here, had called the girl to his house Friday night and raped her. The victim also lived in the same locality and her parents had gone to the market at that time.
After committing the crime, Sonu informed his mother Vidya Devi about the incident. Fearing that the girl might tell her parents, the mother-son duo went to the girl’s house and set her on fire after putting kerosene oil on her.
Hearing the girl’s cries, neighbours came to her rescue and shifted her to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS).
“Police have recorded the statements of neighbours and other people of the locality. We have got some vital clues about Sonu’s whereabouts and dispatched police teams to arrest him,” Mahesh Kumar, investigating officer of the case, told Inditop.
Meanwhile, police Saturday arrested Vidya Devi but Sonu managed to escape. She was produced in a local court and was sent to 14-day judicial custody.
“We could not record the statement of the girl as she was dead when we reached. However, Sonu’s mother has confessed that she killed the girl in connivance with her son,” Kumar added.
Rohtak is around 70 km from Delhi.
