Shimla, July 10 (Inditop.com) A Himachal Pradesh court Friday sent senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Sanjay Gupta to one day in police remand after he was arrested on charges of corruption.

“Solan’s district and sessions judge C.B. Barowalia this (Friday) evening sent General Industries Corporation (GIC) managing director Sanjay Gupta to one day of police remand,” said Inspector General (Vigilance) S.R. Mardi.

Gupta, who also holds the additional charge of the state Financial Corporation, was arrested from a hotel in Parwanoo by the vigilance bureau Thursday for possessing Rs.200,000 in cash.

Another senior GIC official, Ashok Sehgal, was also arrested along with Gupta.

Mardi said Gupta and Sehgal have been booked under Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

“Gupta’s houses in Shimla and Panchkula (in Haryana) were raided and the vigilance has seized documents, including several fixed deposit receipts, bank papers and shares, jewellery and a laptop,” a senior vigilance official said.

Gupta was earlier booked in a vigilance case after he was charged with irregularities and financial bungling when he was posted as the additional deputy commissioner of Kinnaur in the early 1990s.
