Lucknow, Sep 11 (Inditop.com) As many as 18 people have died so far after drinking spurious liquor in Saharanpur town of Uttar Pradesh since Tuesday, police said Friday.

While two people died Tuesday, 10 the next day and three others Thursday, three more died Friday, police said.

“Most of them bought the liquor from Khasauli locality of Deoband. Four wine shops have been sealed in this area. Samples have also been picked up from all the liquor outlets in the district and have been sent for tests,” Amit Chandra, senior superintendent of police, told Inditop by phone.

Over two dozen people have fallen ill and are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. The condition of some of them is reported to be serious.

Meanwhile, police Friday arrested four persons, including the kingpin of a gang involved in manufacturing spurious liquor.

“Suraj Bhan, along with three of his aides, has been arrested,” Amit Chandra said.

The entire police staff of Khasauli police station and the inspector of Deoband police station were suspended Thursday for negligence.
