Bhubaneswar, April 1 (Inditop.com) Police and paramilitary forces have launched a joint operation against Maoist guerrillas in Orissa, a senior police officer said Thursday.
‘The operation started about four days ago in some areas,’ Deputy Inspector General of Police Sanjeeb Panda told Inditop.
Five battalions of paramilitary forces consisting about 5,000 personnel have arrived in the state over the past weeks, an official involved in the exercise said.
The crackdown against the Communist Party of India-Maoist was going on in Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada districts, the officer said.
Deployments were going on in Ganjam, Gajapati and Kandhamal districts.
Maoists are active in more than half of the state’s 30 districts. At least six districts are considered as their stronghold.
