New Delhi, Aug 31 (Inditop.com) The home ministry has sought an explanation from Delhi Police commissioner Y.S. Dadwal asking him as to why his officers rushed to present material seized from an alleged terrorist to the media even before formally arresting him.
Saleem Mohammed, alias Yusuf of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfit, was arrested by Delhi Police’s special cell team from the New Delhi railway station last week on the basis of an input from Intelligence Bureau (IB).
“Police presented all the seized material before media just after the incident which is completely unacceptable. They should not have done that and because of this a notice has been issued to Delhi Police commissioner asking him to clarify on the matter,” a home ministry official said on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media.
Police had recovered some chemicals, explosives (RDX), four detonators and two timers from his possession. Police had also seized from him a Pakistani passport issued in the name of Yusuf and a voter identity card issued by the Jammu and Kashmir authorities in the name of Saleem Mohammed.
“This is not the first time Delhi Police had done such a mistake. Recently in another case also, they had presented all the material before media after arresting the terrorist,” the official added.
