Guwahati, Feb 19 (Inditop.com) Nine people who were on their way to attend a wedding were killed and six injured Friday in a head-on-collision between two vehicles in Assam, officials said.
A police spokesperson said the accident took place early Friday near Chaygaon, about 40 km from Assam’s main city Guwahati, when a truck and a Tata Safari collided with each other.
“The Tata Safari was packed with people going for a wedding when it hit a truck head-on while negotiating a bend,” a police official said.
Seven people died on the spot and two later succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital.
“Two of the six injured are said to be critical,” the official said.
The groom was in a separate car.
“The groom’s party was on way to the bride’s house when the accident took place. For the time being, the wedding has been postponed due to the tragedy,” a relative of the bride said.
