Junagadh (Gujarat), July 17 (Inditop.com) Over 850 families in the flood-ravaged parts of Saurashtra region of Gujarat were shifted to safer places Friday as torrential rains continued to play havoc, officials said.
Junagadh district administration officials have urged the army to be on standby as the flood situation threatened to worsen. A number of relief camps have been established in other districts of Saurashtra to accommodate those who were being evaculated from the flooded villages.
The meteorological office in Ahmedabad Friday afternoon predicted very heavy rains in parts of Saurahstra during the next 48 hours.
The monsoon has been active over Saurashtra, Kutch and south Gujarat. An ‘offshore trough’ in the Arabian Sea is extending from the south Gujarat coast to the Kerala coast which indicates very rough sea, the met office said.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi left this afternoon for an aerial survey of the affected regions of Junagadh district.
