New Delhi, Dec 14 (Inditop.com) The Delhi High Court Monday granted a month’s time to the Uttar Pradesh Police to wrap up their investigation into the death of a woman after she married against her family’s wishes.

A division bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Ajit Bharihoke called the superintendent of police of Ghaziabad after the junior officer failed to provide convincing replies.

“Since the state realizes the seriousness of the matter, let them give a month’s time to investigate further,” noted the bench.

On the assurance of the police officer, the court granted a month’s time to probe the death of Monika Dagar and posted the case for Jan 22.

The Uttar Pradesh Police, in an affidavit filed before the court, submitted that they have also booked all members of the girl’s family for charges of murder as well as suggested by the court.

“Prima facie, the case looks like as if it was an honour killing,” the police observed.

Monika Dagar of Sahibabad married Gaurav Saini of Delhi against the wishes of her family in July this year. Her family then registered a case of kidnapping against Saini.

The police recovered the girl from Saini’s house in Delhi. After getting her medically examined, the police handed her over to her mother and brother although she was an adult.

Saini, after getting bail in the case, moved a petition in the high court, which asked the Sahibabad police to present the woman before it.

The very next day, it was reported that the woman had died and her body had been cremated without any medical examination.
