Allahabad, Sep 24 (Inditop.com) A senior Uttar Pradesh police official was injured when a bullet fired by his drug addict son during a brawl hit him in the head Wednesday night here, police said.

The shooting occurred around 11.30 p.m.

Deputy Superintendent of Police S.P. Chaudhary received a bullet injury in his head and was rushed to a private hospital.

However, Chaudhary was discharged late Thursday afternoon after the doctors kept him under a watch overnight. “Initially, due to excess bleeding, it appeared that the bullet pierced his head, but luckily it only brushed his skull without any serious damage,” Superintendent of Police (City) A.K. Vijeta told IANS over phone.

Chaudhary’s son Rajesh, a drug addict, entered into a brawl with his uncle, a head constable, Wednesday night. While other family members tried to pacify him, he pulled out a countrymade weapon and fired at his uncle, Vijeta told IANS Wednesday.

The bullet first hit Rajesh’s uncle in the hand and then hit Chaudhary’s head, he said.

Rajesh’s uncle, head constable Ramnath posted in Mau district, is still in hospital.

“The bullet has damaged Ramnath’s right palm bones and he will undergo a corrective surgery later,” Vijeta said.

Meanwhile, Rajesh is absconding.

“We have raided the house of all their relatives in the city but Rajesh was not found. We are sending a team to Balia district, the native place of Chaudhary, to find some clues,” Vijeta said.

Chaudhary is posted in the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Varanasi.
