New Delhi, March 30 (Inditop.com) Six people were arrested Tuesday on charges of killing cows after the chopped heads of four bovines were found near a busy road in south Delhi, police said.

The men were led away to a police station after the carcasses were found close to a makeshift market in R.K. Puram area, leading to noisy protests by residents and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) activists.

A police officer confirmed to IANS that the men had been arrested but gave no further details.

Traffic on the arterial Outer Ring Road came to a virtual standstill after the discovery of the carcasses. A large number of policemen were deployed to prevent violence.

A Delhi Jal Board employee at the site told IANS: “The cows had been killed overnight. The entire market is shut now. A group of demonstrators came and destroyed shacks in the market today (Tuesday).”

Cow slaughter is banned in the national capital.
