Kolkata, Aug 29 (Inditop.com) Seven of the eight rare Brazilian marmoset monkeys stolen from the Alipore Zoological Garden here Aug 9 were Friday night traced to Durg in Chhattisgarh.

Police said late Friday night that one of the eight simians was dead.

One person has been arrested in this connection and a team of Kolkata Police sleuths had left for Durg.

The tiny monkeys, just two feet in height, were mysteriously stolen from their cage in Alipore Zoo following which an Interpol look-out notice was sent out to trace them.

Two private security personnel on guard at the zoo were arrested a day after the incident came to light.

Following the incident, Alipur Zoological Garden director Subir Chowdhury was put under suspension.

Altogether 16 rare Brazilian monkeys had been brought to Alipore zoo in 2001.
