Jammu, July 11 (Inditop.com) A 15-year old shepherd was killed and two of his teenaged friends were critically injured in an accidental landmine explosion in Mendhar area of Poonch district along the border with Pakistan Saturday morning, officials said.
The shepherd Wakar and his friends were grazing cattle in the Bhatta forest area in Mendhar, about 180 km north of Jammu close to the Line of Control that divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan, when the explosion occurred, police officials said here.
It was not immediately known whether they had stepped on a mined area or were fiddling with a device which exploded.
Many areas along the LoC still have mines buried, while militants too have stored their arms and ammunition, which they bring from across the border, in areas close to the LoC.
