Vadodara, July 18 (Inditop.com) Ten policemen have been booked on charges of having beaten to death a Border Security Force (BSF) trooper who was in custody over his scuffle with an assistant sub inspector in Gujarat’s Vadodara district, officials said Saturday.
Noora Rathwa was arrested from his home in Hamirpur village Friday on a charge of attacking Kawant police station Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Jandu Dadiya earlier in the day.
Dadiya was admitted to the S.S.G. Hospital here with head injuries. His condition is stated to be critical, a police official said.
Rathwa was allegedly beaten by policemen and died Friday evening. As news of his death spread, his angry relatives and residents of Hamirpur village attacked the police station, injuring four policemen.
The body of the BSF trooper has been sent for autopsy and the report is expected by Saturday evening. Among those charged with Rathwa’s custodial death is a sub-inspector.
Rathwa had complained to officials at the Kawant police station that his daughter had eloped with a boy a few day ago and married him.
On Friday, Rathwa learnt that policemen in Kawant had produced his daughter in court without telling him. This angered him and he attacked Dadiya following an argument over the issue.
