Raipur, July 21 (Inditop.com) The toll in the accidental grenade blast in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Chhattisgarh Tuesday rose to three, with one more trooper succumbing to injuries while being taken to hospital, police said.

Two troopers had died on the spot after a grenade went off accidentally during a mock drill at a CRPF camp.

The incident took place at CRPF’s 85th battalion, based at Nayapara in Bijapur district of the insurgency-hit Bastar region, some 450 km south of capital Raipur.

“It’s an accidental explosion… the grenades went off during mock drill by CRPF jawans,” Inspector General of Police (Bastar Range) T.J. Longkumer told IANS.

He said three critically injured troopers were battling for life at a hospital in Jagdalpur town, headquarters of Bastar where a team of doctors have set up an intensive care unit (ICU).

A police official based at Bijapur town, district headquarters of Bijapur district, said the blast was caused due to improper handling as the team of CRPF men were carrying the grenades casually.
