Patna, Sep 28 (Inditop.com) At least three people drowned when a boat carrying over 60 people capsized in Bihar’s Khagaria district Monday night, an official said. Only 15 of the passengers managed to swim to safety and a search was on for the remaining.

The boat, with a capacity of 30, was carrying over 60 villagers, mainly women and children. It was returning from a fair to mark the conclusion of Durga Puja festival when the accident occurred in Khagaria, about 200 km from the state capital.

“Only 15 people managed to swim to safety,” an official of the district administration, requesting anonymity, said.

The district administration has rushed a rescue team to the spot. So far only three bodies have been recovered, Khagaria police chief Abhay Singh told IANS over telephone.

Singh said that senior officials had also reached the spot.
