Bhubaneswar, May 4 (Inditop) Two more people have been arrested in Orissa for their alleged involvement in the gang rape of a nun during the communal violence in the state’s Kandhamal district last year, police said Monday.

“We arrested two more people during the weekend. The total arrests in the case, including the latest arrest, is 17,” investigating officer D.K. Mohanty told Inditop.

He said police filed a charge sheet against 10 people on Jan 29. “We will file a supplementary charge sheet against other seven people soon,” Mohanty said, adding that 13 more people are wanted in the case.

The 29-year-old Catholic nun was attacked by a mob and raped in Kandhamal district on Aug 24 last year. She filed a complaint with the police two days later.

Kandhamal district, about 200 km from here, witnessed widespread communal violence after the murder of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati and four of his aides at his ashram Aug 23.

At least 38 people were killed in the state and thousands of Christians were forced to flee their homes after their houses were attacked by rampaging mobs. About 3,000 people are still living in government-run relief camps in the district.
