Lucknow, Sep 6 (Inditop.com) An irate mob in an Uttar Pradesh village Sunday chased and beat up two police constables for allegedly not registering a complaint after a Dalit youth was electrocuted, officials said.

Relatives and neighbours of the Dalit youth, Raj Kumar, say that certain influential people forced him to climb a tree Saturday and cut a branch that was entangled in a high voltage power line passing above it in Pratapgarh district.

“He was going to work in the fields when they forced him to cut the branch. Raj Kumar climbed the tree and while cutting the branch he came in contact with the electric wire and got electrocuted,” said Sarju Ram, a villager.

The police have not yet lodged a First Information Report (FIR), he added.

Villagers held a demonstration Sunday protesting the youth’s death when two constables passed by the area. Angry villagers then chased them and beat them up.

The police, meanwhile, said that they would file a complaint once the autopsy is done.

“We are yet to receive the post mortem report. After confirming whether he died of an electric shock or falling from the tree, we will lodge an FIR,” Additional Superintendent of Police S.P. Pathak told Inditop.
