Amritsar, Aug 19 (Inditop.com) Three people were arrested for allegedly murdering a 22-year-old man and tying his body to a tree because he was planning to elope with a woman in their family, the police said here Wednesday.

Officials said Harpreet Singh, who ran a car accessory shop in this holy city of Punjab, planned to elope with his 20-year-old girlfriend, a resident of Boparai Baaj Singh village nearby, Monday night.

The woman’s family got to know about the plan and kidnapped Harpreet when he came to the village.

“We have arrested three relatives of the woman. Their interrogation is on, and we hope to nab two or three more people by (Wednesday) evening.” District police chief Kunwar Vijay Partap told Inditop.

Harjeet’s family received a call from the woman’s family that they had kidnapped him and would kill him.

“Police have registered a case against six people including the woman’s father, her two brothers and three other relatives. We are also taking the help of forensic experts to get vital clues in this case,” Pratap said.
