Srinagar, Jan 1 (Inditop.com) Over a dozen people, including policemen, were injured in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla Friday afternoon as groups of youth pelted stones and clashed with police, an official said.

Groups of youth indulged in unprovoked violence in north Kashmir’s Baramulla town after Friday prayers, police said.

A senior police officer told Inditop: “Some youth indulged in violence engaging police in heavy stone pelting after the Friday prayers in Baramulla town.

“The police resorted to baton charge and lobbing of tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters. Seven policemen and eight protesters were injured in the clashes which continued till the evening.”

One of the injured youth, reportedly hit by a tear gas shell, was referred by the doctors to the Soura Medical Institute in capital Srinagar for specialized treatment.

Attending doctors at the institute have described the condition of the youth as “out of danger”.
