Greater Noida, Feb 19 (Inditop.com) A police official was critically injured along with four other policemen when eight drunk youth in three cars ran over them in the Kasna area of Greater Noida Wednesday night, police said Friday. All the eight have been arrested.
The sub inspector is now battling for life at Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida.
According to police, sub inspectors John Peter and Pradeep Bhardwaj along with constables Vinay Kumar and Surendra Nath Dubey were conducting checking around Ryan International round about, when they saw three cars being driven rashly. The cars had youths who were shouting and indulging in hooliganism.
When the policemen asked them to stop and asked their names and addresses, the youths in one of the Maruti 800 (DL3CAD7172) identified themselves as Praveen, Sanjeev and Kapil while those in Alto (HR51X5656) revealed their names as Yogesh, Budh Ram and Pramod.
The second Maruti 800 (HR38AH2915) had two youths – Sanjay Singh and Virendra Singh.
On being asked about their identities, the eight youths expressed annoyance at being stopped again as they had already been checked on their way earlier, an official at Kasna police station said.
Amidst this, some of the youths took out iron rods and steel bars as others started fighting with the policemen. A scuffle followed between the police team and the youth.
Getting inside the car, the youth hit John Peter’s bike. After he fell down, he ran over the car over Peter.
The youth also drove their cars on the other three policemen, injuring them, before escaping.
Peter suffered critical injuries and was taken to Kailash Hospital. Attending doctor A.P. Singh said he has sustained six fractures – in both legs, ribs and hips.
“He is being operated for multiple fractures and is still critical.”
Kasna police station inspector D.K. Baliyan said all the eight youth were traced and have been arrested.
According to Baliyan, their interrogation revealed that the six youth from Faridabad were also detained earlier the same day around 6 p.m. by another police team. A breath analyser test conducted on them revealed huge traces of alcohol in them.
They were, however, let off on personal bonds as they pleaded that they had come from Faridabad to attend a relative’s wedding in Greater Noida.
