New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS) New and improved version of Aakash tablets will be coming soon as the government plans to manufacture 50,000 new gadgets, an official said Thursday.
Additional Secretary in the human resource development ministry N. K. Sinha said a tender will be floated soon, and in six months from the date of tender, 50,000 units of the cheapest tablets will be manufactured.
He said new tenders will be floated in a couple of months.
“The cap on price will Rs.2,226, we have had some complaints about the present version of Aakash. So a modified version will be manufactured,” the official said.
The Aakash tablet is currently priced at approximately $49 (Rs 2,414).
“There were complaints that the Aakash tablet is slow, the touch screen is resistive, so it it difficult to operate,” Sinha said.
“The new version will have better battery back up, the processor speed will be increased to 700-800 mhz, and the screen will also be changed”.
