New Delhi, Oct 10 (IANS) Around 300 students and teachers of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) staged a protest outside the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) office here Thursday, demanding exclusion of the English language from the civil service examination syllabus.

The students demanded that the authorities either remove English or include other foreign languages back to the UPSC examination syllabus.
A delegation lead by teachers of the JNU, Aligarh Muslim university (AMU), and the JNU Students Union will meet USPC chairman D.P.Agarwal.
“The government and authorities speak of globalisation, but they exclude foreign languages from the syllabus. As a lot of students studying foreign language appear for the civil service examination, their opportunity will be in jeopardy,” Akbar Chaudhary, JNUSU president, told IANS.
