Agartala, July 30 (IANS) Militants who have surrendered Saturday urged Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar to provide education for their kids.
‘Besides rehabilitations of all ex-militants, we have urged the government to … educate our children in government schools,’ said Daniel Borok, leader of the former guerrillas.
After handing to the chief minister a memorandum listing their demands, Borok said: ‘Around 1,000 children of erstwhile militants urgently need education. Otherwise their future would be ruined.’
‘The chief minister has assured us that of the 16 demands, the government would take urgent steps about those that come under the jurisdiction of the state,’ said Borok.
The demands include withdrawal of cases against the surrendered rebels, provide housing facilities, create model villages in tribal majority areas and rehabilitate them through business and rubber plantation.
‘If the government fails to fulfil the demands, our supporters will demonstrate in Delhi,’ he said.
According to official records, 8,075 guerrillas of the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF), the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and other outfits fled Bangladeshi and surrendered before Indian authorities.
