New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued notice to the chancellors and directors of the central and state universities funded by it and other deemed varsities to update their data on the UGC website, an official said.
“UGC has created a website to maintain transparency and objectivity in making available our universities’ database for national and international users in the domain of higher education and information, which is available at the touch of a key,” said Ved Prakash, UGC chairman.
The existing website of the UGC has created a webpage for each university, where the university must update information on the number of teachers, student enrolment, budgetary allocations by the commission, grants released and UGC certificates.
“The UGC is creating an ID code and password for each university in this regard,” Prakash said.
The UGC, a statutory organisation set up by the union government in 1956, looks after the coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of university education in the country. It provides recognition to universities in India, and disburses funds to such recognised universities and colleges.
