New Delhi, July 2 (IANS) Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and Hollywood actress Freida Pinto on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discussed how they can support his ‘Swachh Bharat’ and the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaigns.
Martin and Pinto were accompanied by representatives of the Global Poverty Project.
They met Modi as a follow-up to last year’s Global Citizen Festival in New York where the prime minister had called for a global movement to end poverty and provide universal sanitation.
During Thursday’s meeting, the delegation discussed how they can support Modi’s initiative to provide universal sanitation throughout India by 2019.
They also thanked the prime minister for his international leadership in elevating the cause of sanitation, with a focus on girls and women, on the global agenda.
“It was an honour to spend time with Prime Minister Modi today. His leadership in India, the region, and around the world is an inspiration to many. We discussed the progress that has been made on the ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign and his enduring commitment to ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’,” Hugh Evans, chief operating officer of the Global Poverty Project Inc., said in a statement.
He said the Global Poverty Project looks forward to a “long and ongoing association” with the Prime Minister’s Office to achieve the end of extreme poverty by 2030.
Martin earlier called on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal at his official residence.
The singer also visited a cafe with actress Freida Pinto. Accompanying him were music director Vishal Dadlani, musician Raghu Dixit and members of a standup comedy collective.
