New Delhi, April 2 (IANS) He has given several performances but composer Lesle Lewis is eagerly looking forward to his stint at the opening ceremony of the fifth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Tuesday where he plans to belt out all fun songs.
Lesle, of musical duo Colonial Cousins, will be jamming with South African percussionist group 1st Project and DJ Ravi Drums.
“We are very excited to perform at the opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League. It is the best platform that anyone could get, where you can perform in front of the whole nation. We are really excited and it is going to be a great fun,” Lesle told IANS on phone from Mumbai.
“We would be performing with South African percussionist group 1st Project and Los Angeles-based DJ Ravi Drums. Jamming with them has been really fun and we are looking forward to perform with them. The songs that we are going to play are all ‘masti’ numbers. We will also introduce a song ‘Janab-e-ali’ from our upcoming album in the event,” he added.
Lesle formed Colonial Cousins with singer Hariharan and their debut album “Colonial Cousins” was a platinum in sales in India in 1996. Their fusion of Indian and western won many hearts.
The singer says he is happy to start fusion music and added: “Remix culture and folk fusion became popular. I feel happy to bring about the change.”
Lesle was also instrumental in bringing popular Coke Studio to India, which kickstarted the culture of live musical performances.
Right now he is gearing up to release his album “Tanha Sa Hun” this month and said: “‘Tanha Sa Hun’ will not have that ‘dhinchak’ kind of music. The album will have simple songs sung over a guitar. It has all my kind of songs, something which I like to play.”
