Panaji, Nov 30 (IANS) US-based Indian filmmaker Mira Nair says she is working on a Broadway musical adaptation of her much-acclaimed movie ‘Monsoon Wedding’.
‘I am also doing a Broadway musical adaptation of my earlier film ‘Monsoon Wedding’, which will be released in the spring of 2012,’ Nair said.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday on the sidelines of the 41st International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Nair added: ‘I am also working on a mini television series, but it is still in the early stages.’
Talking about ‘Shantaram’, she said that the project may have been delayed, but it is still on.
‘ ‘Shantaram’ was ready to go, but then there was a Hollywood writer’s guild strike, so it got delayed. And then Johnny Depp who was supposed to play ‘Shantaram’ took on another project,’ said Nair, who is currently working on a film called ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist’, based on Mohsin Hamid’s book of the same name.
‘The project (‘Shantaram’) is still a precious part of my heart. One day we will bring it out on the screen,’ she added.
