New Delhi, Sep 15 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday demanded that Shivraj Patil be sacked as the home minister for failing to control terrorist attacks in the country.

“Under the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) government, the home ministry is conducting itself in a criminally negligent manner,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here.
Prasad was commenting on the security situation in the wake of Saturday’s serial bombings in New Delhi that left 23 people dead and nearly 100 injured.

Prasad also accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of diverting all his energy towards the India-US nuclear deal and not paying enough attention to security issues.

He also reiterated the BJP’s demand to reintroduce the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA).

“This would be the necessary equipment that would enable investigating agencies to intercept (telephone) calls and also present them as evidence in the court,” said Prasad.

Also Monday, BJP leader and prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani visited the victims of the bomb blasts at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital.
