Mumbai, May 5 (IANS) Habib Faisal’s association and camaraderie with the Yash Raj Films (YRF) banner remained unaffected even though Aditya Chopra didn’t find time to produce the writer-filmmaker’s debut directorial “Do Dooni Chaar”.
“I did approach Aditya Chopra for ‘Do Dooni Chaar’, but he was busy with ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’. He was just getting into the shoot so there was no way that he could have paid attention to ‘Do Dooni Chaar’,” Faisal told IANS.
“I thought I was on fire and there was the fire of losing the USP (of the film), so I thought let me just go ahead and do it. But this didn’t create any problem between us because soon after finishing ‘Do Dooni Chaar’, I started writing ‘Band Baaja Baarat’,” he added.
Faisal has earlier worked as a screenplay writer or dialogue writer in YRF projects like like “Salaam Namaste”, “Jhoom Barabar Jhoom” and “Ta Ra Rum Pum”.
He wrote “Band Baaja Baaraat” and has now written and directed “Ishaqzaade”, releasing May 11.
Faisal says Chopra’s denial to “Do Dooni Chaar” made no difference.
“That was a growing understanding between me and Aditya, but it was just the right time we were looking for. I went ahead and made the film on my own so that proved my passion. Making the film was more important to me,” he added.
The director says Chopra was happy when the movie was named the best Hindi feature film in 2011, but didn’t regret not producing it.
“I got the news of National award right here at YRF studios. He was happy for me it, but it wasn’t the case of ‘Oh god, why didn’t I do this film’,” he added.
Currently, Faisal is busy promoting “Ishaqzaade”, which features Parineeti Chopra and marks the acting debut of Boney Kapoor’s son Arjun.
