New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS) An hour-long documentary titled ‘Mother Teresa – Saint of Darkness’, which features rare archival footage of her life and original recordings of her speeches, will be premiered on Discovery Channel Aug 26 to mark her 100th birth anniversary.

‘Mother Teresa’s life is an example to all of us. She’s a paradigm of commitment, dedication, of a genuine love. This programme is our sincere attempt to pay respect to one of the most revered saints the world has ever seen,’ Rahul Johri, senior vice-president and general manager, India, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, said in a press release.

‘The programme highlights the achievements of Mother Teresa and provides an in-depth insight into the life of one of world’s greatest ambassadors of peace,’ Johri added.

Mother Teresa was born in Skopje in Macedonia to Albanian parents. She came to India in 1929 to work as a nun of the Loretto Convent in Kolkata. Later, she started the Missionaries of Charity to help the homeless and the needy.

Since then, the charity organisation has expanded by leaps and bounds and is working in several countries to provide shelter to leprosy patients, homeless, destitutes and orphaned children.

Mother Teresa has been the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1979 and the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour, in 1980.
