Mumbai, Nov 1 (Inditop.com) The Mumbai Film Festival (MFF) this year has a Danish flavour with five films being screened to give Indians a taste of Denmark. And Danish actress Paprika Steen says she would love to do an Indian movie if given a chance.
The five chosen films are – “Antichrist” directed by Las Von Trier, Martin Pieter Zandvliet’s “Applause”, Ole Bornedal’s “Fri Os Fra Det Onde”, “Lille Soldat” by Annette K. Olesen and Heidi Maria Faisst’s “Velsignelsen”.
The Danes are eager to showcase their productions to world audiences and festivals like the MFF are an opportunity to do that, said Malene Vincent, marketing manager (feature films, short and documentary films) of the Danish Film Institute.
“I always try to bring them to the world audience and I am lucky to get the scope to market Danish films in India through MFF,” Vincent told Inditop.
She said that “Applause” and “Antichrist” have already been widely appreciated at international film festivals.
While “Antichrist” was screened at the Cannes Film Festival, “Applause” was received well at the Toronto International Film Festival 2009.
“Applause” is about a celebrated actress called Thea, played by Danish actress Paprika Steen, who has been battling alcoholism for years that led to her divorce and how she desperately tries to reconnect with her two sons.
“My directors think I can portray the character of a mother best in the film. I am absolutely fine with that,” Paprika said here.
She bagged the Best Actress Award for her role in “Applause” at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in the Czech Republic.
Paprika maintains that Danish films don’t imitate Hollywood movies and adds that every film has shades of Danish culture and lifestyle.
“We don’t do films like Hollywood and characters are given more importance in Danish films, so it automatically portrays the culture and lifestyle of Denmark,” explained Paprika.
Asked if she had worked outside Denmark, she said: “I have worked in Swedish Television for a short time and in an American movie ‘Forty Shades of Blue’ directed by Ira Sachs.”
But she confesses she would love to do an Indian film.
“Given a chance, I will come down to do an Indian movie immediately,” Paprika said.
The other noted Danish film at the fest is “Antichrist”, which stars American actor Willem Dafoe and French singer-actress Charlotte Gainsbourg. It is about a couple trying to overcome the grief of losing their only child.
Dafoe plays a therapist who tries to help his wife deal with her grief while urging her to lessen her dependence on sedatives.
Charlotte had won the Best Actress award for her performance in “Antichrist” at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, said Vincent.
