New Delhi, April 19 (Inditop.com) Will Delhi have its first couture week? Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) president Sunil Sethi has not yet confirmed the news but hinted Monday that talks are definitely on for having one in the capital.

“Well, it would be a matter of pride for us, to share the news with all of you once it is confirmed. I would rather prefer to shout from the rooftops to declare the news because it will be like a dream come true for us,” Sethi told Inditop.

“I won’t deny that we are thinking of having one. But as of now, nothing has been finalised. No contract has been signed and then we also have to look for sponsors,” he added.

According to reports, a proposal to have a couture week in Delhi was put forth and its workability was discussed during a recent meeting of the board of directors of FDCI.

The premier fashion body FDCI has been organising India Couture Week in Mumbai with real estate company HDIL as its main sponsors. But with most of the couture designers based in Delhi and a lot of money spent on the wedding couture here, it is ideal to have a couture week in Delhi.

So, once the contract is signed, FDCI will look out for sponsors for the event in Delhi because Mumbai-based HDIL has a stronghold in Maharashtra and are unlikely to sponsor the event here.

“To be very frank, if everything falls in place then we have to look out for sponsors for this event because HDIL are our Mumbai sponsors and have a strong presence there,” Sethi said.

Designer Leena Singh of designer duo Ashima-Leena who was a part of the board meeting said that if this couture week happens, it will be more of business and less of glamour.

“It is a wonderful idea to have a couture week in Delhi and trust me it would consist of just cream designers who have specialised as real couturiers,” Leena told Inditop.
