Bhopal, Jan 31 (Inditop.com) Raunchy Bollywood numbers blared out at a function to remember Father of the Nation and police dogs sniffed at his portraits during a prayer meeting.
The opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh has raised angry protests over the “shameful acts” and demanded Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s resignation over the issue.
“It is a highly objectionable and shameful act,” state Congress spokesman Arvind Malviya said.
“Zuban pe laga, laga re, Namak Ishq Ka (Omkara)”, “Raat Ke dhai baje (Kaminey)” and “Saas Gali Deve, Sasural Genda Phool (Delhi 6)” were some of the popular Bollywood numbers that followed bhajans and sufi songs at a programme organised at Ravindra Bhawan to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 62nd death anniversary Saturday.
At another programme, the police dogs, part of the chief minister’s security cover, were seen sniffing the portrait of the Mahatma even as the prayer meeting was in progress at Gandhi Bhavan.
“Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has no right to sit on the CM’s chair, as he has failed to keep the national honour intact,” Malviya said.
“When the CM’s visit was scheduled, the security drill should have taken place ahead of the function. Secondly, metal detectors and equipment should have been used instead of sniffer dogs that too while the prayer session was in progress,” Malviya added.
A trustee of Gandhi Bhavan Prathisthan, Ramchandra Bhargava said, “Going ahead with the security drill with sniffer dogs at Gandhiji’s portrait in the midst of a prayer session was objectionable and uncalled for.”
Rashtriya Secular Manch leader L.S. Hardenia, who too was present at the function, said that the act was “deplorable”
