Islamabad, Dec 26 (Inditop) Pakistan has deployed troops to protect “vital points” along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir and the international border with India, a media report said Friday.”Sources in the defence department declined to give details of any fresh movement but did not deny reports that Pakistan was moving certain brigades towards Lahore,” Daily Times said. Lahore is the largest Pakistani city near the border.
Indian media reports said Pakistan has moved its 10th Brigade to Lahore and ordered the 3rd Armoured Brigade to head towards Jhelum following heightened tensions in the wake of the Mumbai terror strikes that killed at least 170 people, including 26 foreigners.
India has blamed the attacks on Pakistan-based terrorists, a charge that Islamabad denies.
Pakistan’s 10th and 11th divisions have also been put on high alert, the Indian media said, adding that additional troops had been stationed in the Rajouri and Poonch sectors of Kashmir.
The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has also stepped up its preparedness, flying sorties over Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi.
On Thursday, the PAF began aerial surveillance of the Chashma nuclear power plant, 280 km south-west of Islamabad, and other sensitive sites.
