Chandigarh, Aug 10 (Inditop.com) Seventeen members of a family, who came in contact with an influenza A (H1N1) infected patient, were quarantined in their Sector 9 home here, an official said Monday.
According to health officials, some of the members of the family had gone to Delhi to meet their relatives Aug 5, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. One of their relatives who had come from London was tested positive of swine flu.
“On getting this report, we immediately quarantined the family members for a week in their house. So far, they have not shown any symptoms of infection but we cannot take any chance. Our tem of doctors will examine them everyday at their home,” nodal officer for swine flu H.C. Gera said.
Another family of three members was also quarantined in their home in Sector 34 Saturday. They also met an infected patient during their recent trip to Delhi.
Besides, two new suspected cases were also reported in city hospitals.
One of them is a 20-year-old student from Pune who had come to meet her parents in the neighbouring Panchkula town. She was admitted with swine flu symptoms here in Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research.
Another is a six-year-old girl from Mohali town who was admitted in government hospital here in Sector 32.
“We have sent the samples of their throat swabs to NICD (National Institute for Communicable Diseases), New Delhi. The report is expected to come by the evening,” a health official said.
So far, nearly 50 suspected cases of swine flu have been reported in this union territory. Seven of them tested positive.
