London, April 29 (Inditop.com) Balti cuisine, spicy curries of Asian origin that are loved by Britons, have been found to contain salt nearly three times the recommended levels, and health experts call it “outrageous”. Some baltis are even saltier than seawater.

As many as 784 products from stores and takeaways were checked by Consumer group Consensus Action on Salt and Health (CASH).

They found that some meals contained nearly 21g of salt while the daily maximum recommended intake was just 6g.

The British Heart Foundation said: “The level of salt in some curries is outrageous.”

The Sun reported Thursday that the worst offenders were Iceland’s balti range, with six ready meals saltier than the Atlantic ocean water.

Katherine Jenner of CASH stated that curries had become a British institution, but “for every gram of salt taken out of our diet, 6,000 lives are saved and 6,000 heart attacks are prevented”.
